Export File Naming Convention

Exported files are automatically named using the target language code. For translated exports the suffix is the target language (e.g., report_TR.docx, report_FR.pdf). For bilingual exports the suffix combines source and target codes (e.g., report_EN-TR.docx, report_ES-TR.pdf). You can always change the file name in the save dialog before writing.

The bilingual table DOCX is useful for review workflows — reviewers can see source and translation side by side in a Word document with professional formatting (Calibri font, blue-shaded header row, bordered table).

PDF Translated — Enhanced Export Preview

When you select PDF — Translated document and click Export, an enhanced preview sheet opens directly with a live PDF preview on the left and an options sidebar on the right. All changes update the preview in real time:

  • Header text: Text displayed at the top of every page (e.g., translator name, registration number). Pre-filled from Settings defaults.
  • Footer text: Text displayed at the bottom of every page (e.g., certification statement, date). Pre-filled from Settings defaults.
  • Stamp / Signature Image: Attach a PNG, JPEG, or TIFF image (e.g., an official stamp, seal, or signature) that appears in the top-right corner of every generated page. Click "Select Image..." to browse, or remove the image with the delete button.
  • Append Original PDF: Attach the original PDF file so its pages are appended after the translated content in the final document. Click "Select PDF..." to browse for a PDF file. The appended pages appear in the preview. Remove the attachment with the × button.

Click Save PDF to choose a save location and write the file, or Cancel to go back.

These options are especially useful for sworn translators (yeminli cevirmenler) who need to include their credentials, stamp, and the original document in certified translations.

Default values for header and footer text can be configured in Settings > Files > PDF Export Defaults so they are pre-filled every time you export.

PDF Bilingual — Export Preview

When you select PDF — Bilingual, header and footer options appear in the export format sheet. After clicking Export and choosing a save location, a preview sheet displays the generated bilingual PDF before saving. Click Save PDF to write the file to disk, or Cancel to go back.

Export XLIFF...

Exports the currently selected file as an XLIFF 1.2 bilingual document. A save panel appears where you can choose the destination. The exported file includes all segments with source text, target text, and translation state mapped to XLIFF 1.2 state values:

Segment Status XLIFF State
Untranslated new
Draft needs-translation
Translated translated
Reviewed needs-review-translation
Confirmed signed-off
Locked final

Notes are preserved as <note> elements. The exported XLIFF file can be imported into any CAT tool that supports XLIFF 1.2.

Tip: XLIFF export is also available as one of the formats in the general Export Document... (⇧⌘E) sheet.

Export TMX...

Exports all Translation Memory entries to a TMX 1.4 file. The exported file uses the standard TMX XML format and can be imported into other CAT tools. The export includes all source/target text pairs with their language codes.
