Translation Memory

Translation Memory Tab (Detail Panel)

Displays translation memory matches for the currently selected segment, sorted by match percentage (highest first). Each result card shows:

  • Match percentage badge — Color-coded pill: green (100%/exact), blue (85-99%/high fuzzy), orange (70-84%/moderate fuzzy), gray (below 70%).
  • Match type — Exact, Context, or Fuzzy.
  • Domain tag — If the TM entry has a domain, it appears as a small label.
  • Source text — The original text from the TM entry.
  • Target text — The stored translation.
  • Apply button (arrow icon) — Inserts the TM translation into the current segment's target field, sets status to Translated, and records the match percentage.
  • Double-click any TM result row to apply it directly — this is a shortcut equivalent to clicking the Apply button.

When no matches are found, a memory chip icon is shown with a "no matches" message. The minimum match threshold and maximum result count are configurable in Settings > Translation Memory.

Concordance Tab (Detail Panel)

Provides a full-text search across all Translation Memory entries. This is useful when you want to see how a specific word or phrase has been translated in previous projects.

  • Type a word or phrase in the search field at the top.
  • Results appear immediately as you type, showing all TM entries where the query appears in either the source or target text.
  • The matching text is highlighted in the results.
  • Each result shows the source text, target text, language pair, and domain (if available).
  • Use Translation button: Each concordance result has a Use Translation button (arrow icon) that copies the result's target text into the currently selected segment's target field. You can also double-click any result row to apply it.
  • Source text double-click: Double-clicking a word in the source text column of any segment automatically triggers a concordance search for that word. The detail panel switches to the Concordance tab and shows results immediately. This is a fast way to look up how a specific word has been translated before.

Tip: Use ⇧⌘K to quickly switch to the Concordance tab from anywhere.

Notes Tab (Detail Panel)

Displays and manages translator notes for the currently selected segment.

Automatic notes are added during import:

  • Cell references for XLSX imports (e.g., "Sheet1!A1")
  • Slide numbers for PPTX imports (e.g., "Slide 3")
  • Page numbers for PDF imports (e.g., "Page 2")
  • XLIFF <note> elements are preserved as segment notes.

Adding notes: A text field at the top of the Notes panel lets you type a note and press Enter or click the + button to add it. Notes are saved as part of the segment and persist across sessions.

Removing notes: Each note has an × button on the right side. Click it to remove that note from the segment.

When no segment is selected, the panel prompts you to select one. When a segment is selected but has no notes, an empty-state placeholder is shown.

Translation Memory Management

Sidebar — Translation Memories Section

The sidebar displays a Translation Memories section below the file list, showing all imported TMX files for the current project. Each TMX file row displays:

  • File name — The name of the imported TMX file.
  • Entry count — The number of translation units in the file.
  • Language pair — The source/target language pair detected from the TMX entries.
  • Enable/disable toggle — A switch to enable or disable the TMX file for the currently selected project file. Disabled TMX files are excluded from TM matching and concordance search, but their entries are kept and can be re-enabled at any time.

Context menu actions (right-click):

  • Enable / Disable — Toggle whether the TMX file is active for matching in the current file.
  • Remove — Permanently removes the TMX file and all its entries from the project.

When no TMX files have been imported, a placeholder message appears prompting you to import one via File > Import TMX....

Auto-Apply Exact TM Matches on Import

When a file is imported or a project is opened, tradumacos automatically scans all untranslated, unlocked segments for exact TM matches (100%). If an exact match is found, the translation is inserted into the target field and the segment is set to Translated with a TM match badge. A status message shows how many segments were auto-filled (e.g., "TM: 12 exact matches auto-applied.").

This requires:

  • Auto-insert Exact Matches to be enabled in Settings > Translation Memory > Automation.
  • A Premium subscription (this feature is gated).

This saves significant time when working with files that have high repetition or overlap with previous translations already in your TM.

Per-File TM Usage

TMX enable/disable settings are per project file, not global. If your project contains two files (e.g., contract.docx and manual.docx), you can enable a TMX file for one and disable it for the other. When you switch between files in the sidebar, the TMX toggle states automatically update to reflect the selected file's settings. This is useful when you have multiple TMX files from different domains — you can activate only the relevant ones for each document to keep TM results focused and accurate. Disabled files appear dimmed in the sidebar.

Auto-save

tradumacos automatically saves your project at regular intervals (configurable in Settings > General). Auto-save:

  • Only triggers when there are unsaved changes (detected via the project's updatedAt timestamp).
  • Only works when the project has been saved to a file at least once (Save or Save As).
  • Displays "Auto-saved." in the status bar when a save occurs.
  • The default interval is 5 minutes, configurable from 1 to 30 minutes.

Note: All save, import, and export operations run in the background, so the interface remains responsive during file operations. A progress overlay with a progress bar and status message appears at the bottom of the window during long-running operations such as TMX imports, file exports, and batch pre-translations.
